I have a secret, please don’t tell anyone. If I tell you what it is, promise me you will keep it for me. Well all right, here it goes…
I love finding old furniture really cheap to decorate my house with. There I said it. There is nothing I like better that scouring antiques stores, garage sales, yard sales, etc. Or even better if someone is clearing out an old house or estate and they don’t want it anymore and its F-R-E-E, free, even better!
Now sometimes when the furniture is cheap, it may need a little love and TLC. But I promise you, its worth it! We have found and/or bought numerous pieces over the past few years. I am going to share two of my favorite with you today.
The first is a console that we found in an antique store. We bought it for $30. It was in pretty good condition when we found it, was just missing a drawer and was slightly unlevel. An easy enough fix. I loved the wood and the lines of the piece. The detail on the back board was beautiful. I knew that it would fit perfectly in our small bathroom. My husband then made a drawer to fit where the one was missing. He attached a vintage looking handle, you would never know that it did not belong there in the first place. I found some wire baskets to put on the shelf below for towels and it was perfect. $30 well spent.
The other item we found was this antique label display. This piece is really long but very narrow in depth. Perfect for the entry way by our stairs where there is not a lot of room. This piece has numerous cardboard boxes that hold old labels for fishing reels and line. Most of the boxes still have the labels in them. This was in “as-is” condition.
Can you believe someone was getting rid of it? We scored this beauty for free. That’s right free. I pared it with a vintage library card drawer filled with flowers and an oversize mirror. I think it fills the space perfectly. The top is a great display for seasonal items. We had a beautiful large wooden sled, reindeer and Santa there for the holidays.
Please keep my secret, because if other people find out what is out there I may not be able to find the pieces I want for my house!
