My husband and I redid our pantry closet, boy was it a mess! You can see for yourself from the pictures. I am pretty embarrassed by this before picture, but you would never believe it unless you saw it! This closet was a catch all for everything. There was no order, it was pretty much a glorified junk drawer. Please don’t judge me!
I saw the potential but I thought it was going to be an overwhelming task. My goals were to create more storage space, find a way to organize all of my oversize trays, and to see what we had.
Here is our adventure. First we emptied out the closet. That took a pretty long time. My husband removed all the old shelves and took measurements. He is so handy with his woodworking skills! I love that about him, we make a great DIY team.
I chose a pale yellow paint because I wanted it to be bright when you opened the door. The shelves were painted a very pale grey. The shelves were set at varying heights to accommodate different boxes and cans. I love that the shelving is in an “L” shape so we did waste any space. There are slats up top for my trays, a compartment by the floor for my bag storage (I don’t know about you but with this project I realized I am a bit of a bag hoarder) and large empty spaces that I can fit all of our stuff!
This is still a work in progress but I know I want to use some vinyl chalkboard labels on canisters and containers. I would love some baskets and storage for my cookbooks. I am loving it! My husband did such a great job building what I had envisioned. What do you think?
Wow! Look at all that space you’ll have!
I know… I am so excited, another place I can stack stuff!
! I am so jealous! I have always wanted to do something like this to one of the closets in my house. You did a great job!
Thank you Jen! I have been after my husband for 2 years!! Totally worth it every time I open the door!
Looks great! I really need to get into some of our closets too!
