Easy Soft Sandwich Bread to Make at Home

Looking to bake your own bread? This classic soft sandwich bread recipe is the best one to make that even the kids will like. We have started making one loaf in the beginning of the week and it makes sandwiches for everyone throughout the week.

Slicing tip : Be sure to use a serrated bread knife when slicing this bread to avoid the crumbling or the bread tearing.

This is a very simple recipe and yes it does take time for the bread to rise and bake but trust me it is worth it! This bread has a soft and chewy texture – perfect for picky kids!

Classic Sandwich bread

Ingredients

1 pkg instant yeast/active dry yeast

1 tsp sugar

1 TBSP honey (or sugar)

1-1/2 TBSP butter, unsalted cut into cubes

1-2/3 cups warm water

4-3/4 cups flour

Directions

  1. In the bowl of an electric mixer with a dough hook (if you have one, makes it a lot easier!) combine water, yeast and sugar and let sit for 15 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add the honey, salt, butter and 4 cups of the flour to start. Turn mixer to low and start to knead the bread for about 10 minutes. Add more flour as needed, it should be soft not sticky.
  3. Put the dough in a greased bowl and cover. Let rise for 45 minutes or double in size.
  4. Turn the dough out on floured surface and knead into a rectangle shape. Roll the dough from the short side so you are making a roll.
  5. Place in greased 9” loaf pan, seam down.
  6. Cover and let rise about 30 minutes or double its size.
  7. Preheat oven to 390.
  8. Bake loaf for 30-35 minutes.
  9. Brush with melted butter on top if desired.
