Engage Children With A New App – Dumb Ways JR Boffo’s Breakfast

This post is sponsored by Dumb Ways JR and The Motherhood. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

My daughter and I love to cook and bake together on a regular basis. It really is one of the things we enjoy doing together. I was recently introduced to Dumb Ways JR Boffo’s Breakfast, an App that reinforces our love for cooking with awesome graphics and important safety features.

This app is from the makers of the original, highly popular Dumb Ways to Die campaign that began as a PSA in 2012. This PSA encouraged safe behaviour around trains, train stations/platforms and at level crossings. I love that Dumb Ways Jr. are safety champions for all types of events and that children learn through age appropriate play.

My daughter and I playing Dumb Ways JR Boffo’s Breakfast, while waiting for our lunch.

While playing Dumb Ways JR Boffo’s Breakfast, my daughter has a running commentary with me as she is playing – “Look Mama, he’s making eggs.”, “I’m making lunch for us Mama.” And so on. This game, which is available for download in the App Store (for iPhone) or on Google Play (for Android) is adorable and I find myself enjoying playing as well. As she is playing I am talking with her about kitchen safety, which she knows a few rules, but this app is a great reinforcement tool.

Most of all, I enjoy that it is one more thing that encourages free play and a conversation with my bestie! As a full time teacher I know how important it is for children to learn through experimentation and hands on play. Dumb Ways JR Boffo’s Breakfast is a wonderful tool for young children to own their play, as they are in charge of what happens next.

Our reactions to Bofo’s emotions and antics!

While we were playing with this App, I noticed my daughter was happily learning about safety while watching Boffo’s reactions and emotions in a fun environment. Children are encouraged to be a personal chef for Boffo and make as many different combinations of meals from 20 ingredients by swiping and clicking. Great hand-eye development tool! My favorite is when Bofo gets worried when the heat is too high on the cook top- not to be surpassed by the catchy music as well!

We also tried out Dumb Ways JR Loopy’s Train Set app as well. In this app children are engaged by Build or Drive modes. In either mode they are interacting with the characters by driving the train or building different tracks. My daughter loved adding houses and especially animals to her train track she was creating. She was laughing along with the characters and talking to them as she was driving them around the countryside she made.

As a parent, I was really impressed by how much there was to do within both of these apps. My daughter happily constructed and deconstructed every time she was playing. She always found something newto do. These are definitely a couple of apps that you want to have on your phone, tablet or android device. They will keep your young children entertained and help them learn through play. For more information and product details you can connect with Dumb Ways to Die and Dumb Ways JR online.
