There is nothing better than the fall in “the woods” of upstate New York. The weather is crisp, the leaves are a beautiful ever changing palette of color and the fall activities are plentiful. We are able to pick apples right in our own backyard and the kids love making recipes with these fresh picked beauties. My daughter and I recently made apple butter to serve with Kellogg’s® Eggo® Star Wars Galaxy Adventure Buttermilk Pancakes, the perfect afternoon snack.
My daughter has quickly become my right hand in the kitchen. She loves cooking with me and I have found that this helps her try new foods. She is more apt to try new things when she had a hand in making them. When we were making this homemade apple butter she could not wait to try it! Last week when we were at Walmart shopping we found these Kellogg’s® Eggo® Star Wars Galaxy Adventure Buttermilk Pancakes and Kellogg’s® Eggo® Mickey Mouse Homestyle Waffles and we just had to have them. They make the perfect base for this yummy and easy apple butter. These pancakes are so cute with six different Star Wars designs – perfect for any young Jedi!
Homemade Slow Cooker Apple Butter
Ingredients
5 lbs apples, peeled and finely chopped
3 cups sugar
3 teaspoons cinnamon
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
¼ teaspoon clove
1 teaspoon salt
Instructions
Place all ingredients in a crockpot, set on low.
Cover and cook on low for approximately 9-12 hours.
Whisk until smooth.
Can be frozen with ½ inch head space in containers.
We like to spread the apple butter on Kellogg’s® Eggo® Star Wars Galaxy Adventure Buttermilk Pancakes and roll up, top with confectioner’s sugar for a little extra sweetness.
