Fired Ink Art Work

This year for Mother’s Day I wanted my daughter to make something extra special for all the “moms” in her life and we had a blast creating these Fired Ink Prints. Not only did they all come out unique but they were frame worthy.

I was so excited to try this fired ink project as I had seen it on the Internet numerous times so I ordered up a batch of Alcohol Ink in different colors. Please note this is not a project that your children can do completely by themselves as you do have to set the ink on fire but they can help with all of the other components. It was actually a really nice natural way to introduce the “we don’t play with lighters” conversation again with my now five-year old.

So what do you need and how do you make these fabulous artworks? Here we go!

Fired Ink Art Work

Materials Needed

Baking Sheet

Tin Foil

Frame with glass insert

Colored Alcohol ink

Rubbing alcohol

Dropper

Lighter

Instructions

**Work outdoors**

Place a piece of foil in a baking sheet.

Remove the glass insert from a picture frame and place on the prepared baking sheet.

Drop the Alcohol Ink in droplets all over the glass insert- use a variety of colors for interesting patterns and textures.

Pick up the glass and tilt it around to let the ink run across the glass.

Add rubbing alcohol by an eye dropper to let the Alcohol Ink run more freely.

Once you have it the way you like, light the glass on fire with a lighter. )Make sure you are working in an area where nothing else can catch on fire) The fire will last for about 30 seconds. Make sure you set the entire glass insert aflame because this is what adheres the ink to the glass.

Let cool

Put the glass back in the frame.

Place a white piece of behind glass and put backing on for hanging or displaying.

So as you can see there are a few parts here that you do not want your kids to participate with but they can totally drop the ink and swish it around the glass. My daughter had the best time creating these projects for all our special ladies in our lives- grandma’s, teachers, Aunts and more! They will all love their one of a kind pieces of artwork- I know that I have mine on display already.

I would have done this on everything that I had in the house that day that was glass, but I was able to stop myself! Let me know how you make out with your DIY Fired Ink project and happy crafting!
