With the Big Game just around the corner, I am starting to plan what we are going to have for snacks this year… this is obviously the most important part! I decided to make a Snack Stadium for the Big Game as my centerpiece this year. This is no easy undertaking but the results are SO worth it!
While shopping at Walmart I found SNICKERS®, Skittles®, Pepsi™, TOSTITOS® chips and salsa that would be perfect for snack choices to use in my Snack Stadium. I wanted to use the Skittles® as a decorative feature because of all the beautiful colors included in every bag. I loved how vivid they were and thought they would be perfect for this project.
Let’s get started!
I wanted my stadium to revolve around a tin that would serve as a football field. The rest of the stadium needed to revolve around this size. You could use a disposable broiler pan for this as well. You will need cardboard or oaktag for constructing the stadium as well as masking tape and hot glue. Hot glue works really well for this project. If you have some corrugated cardboard in the house that would work well for the bleachers too.
I used small plastic cups to use as the corners of the stadium where a few of the Pepsi cans will sit. Turn one of the cups over and hot glue to the second to make pedestals. You will need 8 cups for this step, so that you will have 4 pedestals. Make sure your Pepsi™. cans fit inside. Set these aside for later.
Next I cut 3 long strips out of the card board to make the outside ring of the stadium. I used masking tape to adhere the strips end-to-end to make one long piece. With your pan in the center, construct an oval ring and tape together to hold. Place a larger piece of cardboard underneath your pan and oval ring as a base.
Using cardboard or corrugated cardboard, cut and bend four separate pieces for each side of the snack stadium. Look at the photo for details. They should be on a diagonal to resemble bleachers. Using hot glue adhere to the top of the stadium ring and tape down on the bottom base.
Spray paint the whole structure with silver spray paint or any color you choose. Make sure you do this outside and allow to dry.
For the next steps I used royal icing in a piping bag to adhere all of the candies so that guests could pick them off and eat them – just like a big candy dish! I separated all the Skittles® by color so that the decorating would be easier. Once the snack stadium is dry attach Skittles® to the outside of the stadium using the royal icing. I made a large domed doorway and some scroll work along the outside of each side of the stadium reminiscent of Pop Art.
For the stairs I used gum to make the columns and attached rows of Skittles® to make the fans. I love how this is coming along! Allow all of the royal icing to dry over night.
Place the pan in the bottom of the Snack Stadium on green construction paper. Unwrap the SNICKERS® minis and place them around the outside of the field. “Paint” a few with royal icing laces for footballs. Using pretzel rods cut and arrange them into goal posts and attach to the green construction paper. Using the green Skittles® fill in the green construction paper on the field.
Cut triangles out of colored construction paper and glue toothpicks to make flag pennants. Place on top of the walls of the stadium. These can double as food dippers to pick up the SNICKERS® minis. Place the Pepsi™ cans in the pedestals in the corners of the stadium and line a set around one side of the stadium.
Put the TOSTITOS® scoops along the top of the stadium as well as the cars in the parking lot. Fill the pan with guacamole in the center for the field and spoon TOSTITOS® chunky salsa into each end for an end zone. Pipe sour cream lines onto the field to make hash lines and markers.
Lastly fill two small mason jars with Skittles® in layers to mark the entrance of the Snack Stadium. Then simply enjoy the efforts of your work I love how my Snack Stadium came out and I can not wait for our friends and family to come over for the Big Game to enjoy it too. This was such a fun project to work on and I enjoyed every minute of it!
