‘Tis the season to be gifting! I love making special gifts for all those people in my life that make our days easier and brighter. This includes my co-workers, the children’s teachers and bus drivers as well as our UPS deliveryman. Trust me he delivers an awful lot to our house! Holiday Rubermaid TakeAlongs have made it even easier to give with their variety of festive holiday colors and prints including Red, Green, and holiday prints. Give back to your community this year and make your soul feel good.

I truly believe that everyone loves a handmade gift. I think these gifts come from the heart, and that a little more effort went into their present, so that it wasn’t just about the present but the sentiment it symbolizes. My Nana used to make a Swedish Butter Spritz cookie for the holidays that she packaged in old coffee tins wrapped in holiday gift-wrap to give to people during the holiday season. She would also package up a bunch of these tins to sell at her church during their holiday bazaar. These cookies use a cookie press to achieve their delicate shapes but they are worth the extra effort for the delicious melt in your mouth cookie.

Nana's Butter Spritz Cookie for Gifting

  • 2 sticks butter (softened)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/4 cup flour
  • Sprinkles (non-perils, etc. for decorating)
  1. Heat oven to 350ºF. Beat butter and sugar in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until light and creamy (about 5 minutes) Stir in egg and vanilla extract, add dry ingredients and combine.
  2. Add dough to cookie press and make the shapes that you like. Add your decorations (sprinkles, non perils, etc.)
  3. Bake 8-10 minutes until edges are set, but not brown. **These cookies bake fast!
  4. Cool completely.

Using the Rubermaid TakeAlongs that I found in Walmart has made packaging these delicate cookies a breeze. They feature Quik Clik Seal™ technology, which keeps your food secure, and helps prevent spills. They have soft; flexible lids that grip the edges for a tight seal that means your cookies stay fresher longer. They are also freezer, microwave and dishwasher safe. So not only are the cookies a gift, but the Rubermaid TakeAlongs are too!

I chose the simple Rubermaid TakeAlongs deep square with a red lid for my cookie giving needs this year. I love to include a hand written note when I am giving gifts. It only takes a minute but a heartfelt card makes all the difference. I have created a beautiful holiday card that you can simply print out and attach with a ribbon to your gift.

When wrapping cookies to give as gifts I like to line my box with tissue paper so that the cookies have a nice soft bed to rest on. Once you have filled your box, close the remaining tissue paper over the top of the cookies. Secure the lid and tie with a ribbon and your handwritten note. How pretty!
