Teach Kids Good Nutrition Choices

Summer days are coming to a close but that does not mean that we are spending any less time outdoors. It seems that the more active we are the more hungry the kids get! I always make sure to bring a snack bag with healthy options for the kids to choose from.

For me I think that giving kids choices is important and allows them to have ownership over their eating habits. I always include fresh fruit and veggies, water, cheese slices and lately CLIF Kid Zbar®.

I really believe that everything is ok in moderation and correct portion size and sometimes I have to even remind myself of what a serving size is! CLIF Kid Zbar® comes in appropriate portion size for kids in flavors they love. My daughter loves the chocolate chip flavor.

We spend most of our time with the kids down by the pond doing all sorts of activities and trust me when I say that they need to refuel to keep going. As a parent, I feel confident giving CLIF Kid® products to my kids because they make nutritious snacks from organic ingredients that are specially-crafted for kids’ developing taste buds and active lives. My kids love the taste and texture of these bars.

My kids know that if it is nice out we are outside playing. No electronics, just imagination and creativity. But unfortunately play is disappearing at home, in school and in communities.  70% of moms played outside when they were kids, 31% of their kids play outside today. How telling are those numbers? As a teacher I see first hand the children at school that would rather be playing on computers, video games or their phones than to engage in an activity of play. Not in our house! My kids may complain at times for our constant on-the-go attitude but someday I know they will thank me.

Check out the CLIF Kid video.

Memories come from activities with the family not by interacting on the phone or screen.

So take a page from our “playbook” and get outside with your family. Just remember to pack a nutritious snack bag with a CLIF Kid Zbar®!
