We love music in our home- there is always something playing and depending on our moods this can range from rock, pop, jazz and classic rock or really anything that has a great beat and good lyrics. This album, The Queen and The Outcast by Whole Damn Mess has both of those things.

To have the Whole Damn Mess you need to allow the honesty and reality to come in. You should not hold back and be open to whatever happens. It is about giving up the perfect persona and hoping to touch the listeners’ soul. This band fronted by Don Miggs has captured all of this with their new debut album The Queen and The Outcast.

This album can resonate with everyone on a different level; I love the bad boy and rich girl theme is conveyed throughout the song lyrics. It has transported me back to the “good old days” when not playing mom and dad was the norm and you could live your life to the fullest, trust your heart and believe in fairytales. For the record I never stopped believing in the fairytale!

In the song “Anywhere Without You” you can feel the raw emotion that he does not want to be anywhere without his “queen”. He needs to be by her side no matter what so that he can listen to her voice and laughter. I love that a man can seem so vulnerable and express his emotions through music. The lyrics imply that he would go to the ends of the earth to be with his woman. Love really has a way of overcoming even the most difficult of situations. This song gave me hope and showcased the power of love. Beautiful.

In the song “We Don’t Need A Reason,” he is looking for ‘the answers’ in the stars and the sky. They both want to take the chance but knowing that once they take that next step you can never take it back. The melody and lyrics are beautifully written. It made me think of high school or after college and you are taking a chance on someone. That they will not break your heart, lie, take advantage of you and you hope with all of your heart that they are the person that they say they are.

I really love that these songs tell stories that are easily relatable. They remind me of Journey or the Steve Miller Band. A little bit of classic rock with great lyrics and melodies.
