It is winter and with the inclement weather comes snow days. As a mom and teacher too, I know that at least one snow day a season is inevitable. So I plan for these days, by having hot chocolate, a fun recipe and a few passes down the hill with our snow tubes to keep the kids entertained.

Old Fashioned Hot Chocolate

Serves 4

 

Ingredients

• 3-1/2 cups Whole Milk
• 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa
• 1 pinch salt
• 1/3 cup boiling water
• 3/4 cup sugar
• 1 TBSP vanilla extract
• ½ cup heavy cream

Directions

1. Combine the cocoa, sugar and salt in a saucepan, add the water and bring to a boil- whisking constantly over medium heat.
2. Simmer for about 5 minutes.
3. Add milk and bring to a boil. Be careful it doesn’t scorch.
4. Remove from heat, add in vanilla and cream and stir to combine.
5. Pour into mugs and enjoy.

We love this recipe through out the winter but even more so on snow days! As the blustering cold continues be sure to focus on the things that are really important- yourself and your family. Be sure to take care of you first. I have a hard time with that at times but it is really important, so if that means taking a few minutes everyday to streamline your skincare routine, so be it.
