My Trip to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

My husband and I try to go on a vacation every summer without the kids. We do something nice with the kids and then we get to spend a few days away from them. I know that many people don’t agree that we do this, but for us it is necessary for our marriage and sanity. If you can afford to do it (even one night away from the kids) it can definitely help keep your marriage alive!

This year we decided to go to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. When we were looking for vacations on Expedia, we were amazed by the value of the all-inclusive resorts in Punta Cana. After much research we decided to stay at the Majestic Elegance in Punta Cana. It was the perfect decision.

Flying into Punta Cana was a little surreal. The airport there is a building that had no windows and was part grass hut… well palm leaves but you get the idea. While we were waiting in line at Customs we were entertained by a 3-man band playing lively Domincan music. Not lively enough to hide our shock that we had to pay $10 US each just to step foot in the country but upbeat non-the-less.

From the airport we rode in a taxi that we got just outside the airport. We did not make reservations ahead of time and there were plenty available. Our taxi was $40 for both of us to the resort. This was a much better deal then the $70 trip if you made reservations ahead of time. We had a private taxi (minivan) to the resort.

We were overwhelmed with the beauty of our resort when we arrived, the Majestic Elegance was stunning! We were welcomed with a delicious drink and a cold towel. While we were checking in we were told our room was not ready yet so we checked in our bags and went to one of the many restaurants on property for lunch. The lunch buffet was delicious. There were so many choices from made-to-order pasta, to sandwiches and pizza and a salad bar. They offered wine and beer, as well as soft drinks and water with our lunch. It was perfect. Once we finish lunch, we went to our room.

Stay tuned for what the room was like in another post to come.
