A Surprising Golf Destination In Florida Has Just Earned A Spot Near The Top Nationwide
Some of the best golf in America sits on land that used to be a phosphate strip mine. Towering sand dunes and deep lakes now frame the fairways, all shaped by decades of mining and careful reclamation.
The property covers more than 16,000 acres in Central Florida. Big-name architects built courses here that keep landing near the top of national rankings.
I love that the land’s rough history is celebrated instead of hidden.
Golf is only part of the draw. There’s a grotto-style spa, a lakeside infinity pool, guided bass fishing, and a putting course that changes every single day.
I can’t imagine a better excuse to skip the beach for once.
So how did an old mine in the middle of nowhere become one of the country’s most talked-about golf trips? The answer starts with the dirt.
An Old Mine Became Golf Heaven, And You Can See Why

Florida isn’t supposed to have dunes like these. At Streamsong Resort, the sandy ridges and deep lakes came from decades of phosphate mining.
The Mosaic Company owned the land and later reclaimed it. Then it opened the resort, along with the Red and Blue courses, in 2012.
The area is known as Bone Valley, and the name fits a place with such a dramatic past. Instead of flat fairways lined with palm trees, you get rugged, rolling ground that feels almost foreign.
Many people say it doesn’t feel like Florida at all, and the landscape makes that easy to believe.
Golf Digest once called Streamsong the hottest golf destination to open in America that decade. That’s a bold label for a former mine site in rural Polk County.
Ownership changed in 2023, when KemperSports completed its purchase through a subsidiary. The company had already managed the golf operation since day one, so the transition kept familiar hands on the wheel.
I like how the resort leans into its history. The scars of mining became the bones of something beautiful.
Few golf destinations can tell a comeback story quite like this one.
Four Famous Design Teams, One Very Lucky Patch Of Sand

Golf fans usually travel across the country to compare famous architects. Here, the work of four major names sits on one property.
Coore and Crenshaw designed Streamsong Red, while Tom Doak built Streamsong Blue. Hanse and Wagner added Streamsong Black in 2017.
The resort calls itself the only golf facility in the world with original designs by these four architects and firms in one spot. David McLay Kidd is the fourth, and his Bone Valley course is already welcoming golfers for preview rounds. That’s a lineup worth bragging about at the clubhouse.
Red, Blue, and Black regularly show up near the top of national rankings. Publications like Golf Digest and GOLF Magazine have placed them in their top 30 to 40 lists.
Each course plays differently, which makes a multi-day trip feel fresh. Red and Blue were built side by side, so playing both back to back is a fun way to compare styles.
Here’s a tip for planning. Walking-only golf applies on certain courses and during specific periods, especially from late December to late February.
Pack comfortable shoes and check the policy before booking your rounds.
Short On Time? The Chain Still Delivers Big Fun

Not every great round needs four or five hours. The Chain, a short course by Coore and Crenshaw, opened at Streamsong in 2023.
Short courses are perfect for tired legs, newer golfers, or anyone squeezing in one more round before dinner. They keep the creativity of a big course without the marathon.
There’s a bonus for overnight guests. The resort fee covers access to The Link, which is the first six holes of The Chain.
Six holes might sound small. Still, it’s a smart warm-up or a relaxed evening loop when the full courses feel like too much.
The Chain also helps groups with mixed skill levels play together. A beginner can enjoy it just as much as a scratch golfer, and nobody feels left behind.
I believe short courses are the most underrated part of any golf trip. They bring back the playful side of the game, where a wild shot feels funny instead of costly.
Plan it for an afternoon after a full round elsewhere. Your scorecard may thank you, and your legs definitely will.
Thirty-Six Putting Holes That Refuse To Stay Put

Thirty-six holes on two and a half acres sounds like a riddle. At The Bucket, it’s simply how the putting course works.
The holes change daily, so yesterday’s victory won’t help you today. That keeps friendly rivalries honest and the trash talk fresh.
The Bucket sits just steps from The Lodge. That makes it easy to grab a putter after dinner without hopping on a shuttle.
Hungry players have an easy fix nearby. The Bucket Food Truck pairs up with the course for casual bites between putts.
Another putting course, called The Gauntlet, sits beside the Streamsong Black clubhouse. If one green isn’t enough, now you’ve got two.
Putting courses are wonderful for families and groups who don’t all play golf. Anyone can hold a putter and chase a ball across rolling turf.
Bring a little competitive spirit and maybe a small wager, like who buys dessert. Your three-putt habits might show up, but at least the stakes stay low and the laughs stay high.
Big Windows, Big Views, And A Bed Waiting After Golf

Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the Florida horizon in each of the 216 rooms and suites at Streamsong Lodge. Custom light controls let you decide how much of that view you want.
Rooms come with luxe linens, plush robes, and boutique amenities. You’ll also find queen or king beds, large showers, mini-fridges, flat-screen TVs, and coffee makers.
Sound-control features help after a long day outdoors. Quiet rooms matter when your tee time is early.
Groups have special options too. The Clubhouse Experience offers 12 deluxe guestrooms with butler service, just steps from the first tee.
The Bunker Experience works for groups of eight to ten golfers. This private wing includes seven guestrooms plus a suite with card and pool tables, a dartboard, a mini-fridge, and two bathrooms.
New Golf Cabins are expected starting January 2027. They’ll offer shared living spaces with private bedrooms, which sounds perfect for a buddy trip.
The Lodge also has a 24-hour fitness center and The Loft game room. Both are covered by the resort fee, along with in-room bottled water and internet.
Nine Places To Eat Means Nobody Leaves Hungry

Golf builds an appetite, and Streamsong Resort answers with nine restaurants and lounges. That’s a lot of choices for one rural spot.
SottoTerra is the fancy one, located beneath The Lodge. It serves modern Italian food inspired by top culinary regions of Italy.
Fin and Feather sits just off The Lodge lobby. It celebrates the region’s history with southern-inspired recipes and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Over at the Red and Blue Clubhouse, Pub 59 keeps things casual with pub-style lunch fare. At dinner, it serves the Canyon Lake Steakhouse menu in a relaxed setting overlooking the practice putting green.
Bone Valley Tavern lives at the Streamsong Black Clubhouse. This gastropub offers 360-degree views, fresh seafood, and Florida flavors.
Hemy’s Poolside brings seasonal menus with appetizers and entrees beside the lake. In-room dining covers those nights when your couch beats any reservation.
My advice? Spread your meals around instead of sticking to one favorite.
Each spot has its own personality, and sampling them all is half the fun of staying here.
Sore Shoulders Have A Grotto Waiting For Them

Eighteen holes can leave your back talking. AcquaPietra, the grotto-style spa at Streamsong Resort, is built to quiet those complaints.
The spa includes relaxation pools, a co-ed wet suite, a steam room, and a sauna. It’s a calm, cave-like escape from the Florida sun.
Treatments cover a wide range. You can book massages, facials, body treatments, and esthetic services tailored to what you need.
A few age rules matter here. The spa is for guests 18 and older, while the salon welcomes guests 16 and up.
This makes AcquaPietra a nice option for non-golfers in your group. While others chase birdies, someone else can chase total relaxation.
Timing helps too. A massage between rounds can loosen tight muscles before your next tee time.
I like that the spa matches the resort’s earthy, rugged feel. A grotto fits a place shaped by sand and stone far better than a typical glossy spa would.
Book ahead if you have a certain treatment in mind, especially during the busy golf season.
Trade Your Golf Clubs For A Fishing Rod Or A Bow

Largemouth bass call the resort’s lakes home. Guided catch-and-release fishing trips come with guides and all the gear you need.
That means you don’t have to pack a tackle box. Just show up ready to cast.
Sporting clays offer another change of pace. The newly remodeled 15-station course sits minutes from The Lodge, and excursions include transportation, safety gear, equipment, and certified instructors.
Plan ahead for that one. Reservations need to be made 72 hours in advance.
Archery is also on the menu. An on-site outdoor range lets you try this ancient skill with help from certified instructors.
Hiking rounds out the outdoor options. With more than 16,000 acres of reclaimed land, there’s plenty of scenery to explore on foot.
Back near The Lodge, Hemy’s Poolside has a lakeside infinity-edge pool with private cabanas. A heated outdoor pool and hot tub stay open year-round from sunrise to sunset.
These activities make Streamsong Resort work for groups with mixed interests. Not everyone has to love golf to love the trip.
Mark Your Calendar, Because The Best Is Still Coming

Bone Valley, the newest course designed by David McLay Kidd, began welcoming golfers for preview play on September 19, 2026. Its official grand opening is scheduled for January 26, 2027.
That gives Streamsong Resort five courses in total. Few golf spots anywhere can say the same.
The pros are coming too. The 2027 PGA Professional Championship will be played on Streamsong Red and Streamsong Blue from April 25 to 28, 2027.
Getting here takes a little effort. The resort sits at 1000 Streamsong Drive, Bowling Green, FL 33834, about 90 minutes from both Tampa and Orlando airports.
Once you arrive, a complimentary shuttle moves guests around the property. Free parking, valet service, and Tesla chargers make driving in easy as well.
Florida and Georgia residents can find discounted golf rates throughout the year. Day guests can book tee times too, so staying overnight isn’t required.
Florida has plenty of golf, but very little looks like this. I believe the next few years will push this former mine even higher on everyone’s travel list.
