We never had an aquarium before … a few fish that we won at a fair and a Beta fish here and there but not an actual aquarium. I was not sure what to expect but this was super easy and it is fun for the whole family.

Where to begin

Begin
To get started, we began by rinsing our gravel and placing it in the bottom of the fish tank. We then added the water, filter, heater and decorations into the tank and made sure everything was working properly.
Temperature
Our tropical fish tank water should be about 76 – 78 degrees for the fish that we were choosing to add to our freshwater tank.
Products to Promote a Healthy Tank
Next, we added the API® products. First up is API® QUICK START. API® QUICK START nitrifying bacteria allows for the instant addition of fish, as it immediately starts the natural aquarium cycle with beneficial bacteria, which converts toxic ammonia into nitrite, then into harmless nitrate to help prevent fish loss in your tank.
Adding a capful of API® STRESS COAT water conditioner makes the tap water safe for fish by removing chlorine, chloramines and heavy metals from tap water, and contains the healing power of Aloe Vera to reduce fish stress by up to 40% and to heal damaged tissue and wounds.
Next, we added STRESS ZYME bacterial cleaner as part of my tank’s regular upkeep routine that assures an active biological filter, a cleaner aquarium, healthier fish, and good water quality.
We checked the tank prior to adding the fish with API® 5-IN-1 TEST STRIPS to make sure all the levels were exactly where they needed to be. The whole setup probably took less than 15 minutes to get everything together and ready to go. Our family loved choosing fish to add to our new community and this aquarium has been an endless source of entertainment and relaxation while watching our new friends swim.
