Easy Cream Cheese Danish

Danish Recipe with Puff Pastry

Truth be told I love a good breakfast pastry and Danish is definitely in my top 5. This easy cheese Danish (I added a cinnamon apple bite too) is ready to east in 15 minutes. I used puff pastry dough to create this recipe and boy is it good.

If you want to take full shortcuts you could even use the ready-made cheesecake filling that can be found in the refrigerator section of your local food store.

Easy Cheese Danish

Ingredients

2 sheets of puff pastry dough, thawed

1 pkg cream cheese, room temperature

1 TBSP lemon juice

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/3 cup sugar

1 egg, beaten

1 TBSP water

1 can apple pie filling, if desired.

Directions

Preheat oven to 400. Line 2 baking sheets with silicon mats.

Roll one sheet of pastry dough so that it is flat and the crease from the folds are smooth.

Cut the sheet into 9 equal parts, square.

Using a fork prick the middle of each square of pastry dough to about ½ inch on all sides. Set aside.

In a small bowl, combine the egg and water and brush the tops of each square.

In a medium bowl, beat the cream cheese with an electric mixer until smooth. Add the lemon juice, sugar and vanilla until combined.

Spread each square with about 1 TBSP of the cream cheese mixture (**NOTE- do not use too much or it will run off the sides when baking)

If desired top each square with one apple slice from the apple pie filling.

Bake for 15 minutes until golden brown.

Repeat steps for second sheet of puff pastry.

Enjoy!

Tip- You can top with any of your favorite preserves or pie filling.

This is such an easy recipe to make a yummy breakfast pastry. These are delicious plain or with the fruit topping. My husband loves the apple pie filling, while I prefer a seedless raspberry jam to top mine.
