Recall: Instant Coffee Sold In New York May Contain Glass

Coffee lovers in New York — this one’s for you. It’s time to take a serious look at your coffee stash because another recall has hit the shelves.

This is already the second coffee recall to impact New York State recently, and at this rate, I’m starting to feel like the “Recall Queen.”

Almost every day, there’s a new alert to share, and if I still drank coffee, I’d be more than a little uneasy.

The first recall centers on coffee pods — specifically New Mexico Piñon Coffee’s Dark Piñon Single Serve Cups, a popular choice for their rich, nutty flavor. According to an FDA alert, certain pods may have a manufacturing defect that allows ink from the packaging to leak into the cup during brewing, potentially contaminating the beverage.

Consumers who have purchased these pods are strongly advised to stop using them immediately and return them to the place of purchase for a refund or replacement. The affected product comes in a 10-count box with a best-by date of 05/08/2026, product number F03308, UPC 812361033081, and lot code 251749 clearly marked on the packaging.

This recall applies to products sold throughout New York State and nationwide, highlighting the importance for coffee drinkers across the country to check their pantry supplies.

The recall affects Clover Valley 8-ounce Instant Coffee jars sold at Dollar General stores nationwide, including throughout New York. Only the three lot codes mentioned above — L-5163 with a best-by date of 12/13/2026, L-5164 with a best-by date of 12/13/2026, and L-5165 with a best-by date of 12/14/2026 — are included in the recall, and these codes can be found printed on the bottom of each container. No other Clover Valley coffee products or instant coffee varieties sold at different retailers are affected. This particular coffee is a budget-friendly favorite for many households looking for a quick caffeine fix.

Glass fragments in food products can pose a serious health hazard if ingested. Sharp pieces have the potential to cut the mouth, throat, or digestive tract, while even the tiniest, invisible shards may cause internal bleeding or dangerous perforations. The risk is especially high for children and elderly individuals, whose bodies are more vulnerable to injury.

Although no injuries have been reported to date, the recall was initiated as a precautionary measure to protect consumers. Food safety experts emphasize the importance of carefully inspecting food and beverage items whenever there is suspicion of contamination, particularly in the wake of official recall alerts.

If you purchased one of the recalled coffee jars, you can return it to any Dollar General store for a full refund — no receipt is required, as long as the lot code on the product matches one of those included in the recall.

For customers who are unable to visit a store in person, Dollar General offers assistance in arranging alternative return methods, and store associates have been instructed to process refunds promptly and without unnecessary hassle.
