This past month, I was invited to Social Media on the Sand Conference in Negril, Jamaica. For the past three years I have been following along with other bloggers and watching all of the festivities from home with the #BeachesMoms. The talented folks at BSM Media put together an amazing opportunity for bloggers.
So what is Social Media on the Sand or Beaches Moms? It is a beautiful conference that focuses on family, giving back, and networking with brands and bloggers. For me it was an opportunity of a lifetime and I am considered fortunate to be on of the lucky ones invited.
This year the sponsors were The Sandal’s Foundation, Sesame Street, Giggle, HP, My Printly, Playskool, Tulip, Lands’ End, School Specialty, Scholastic, Truth Initiative, POUND, Psi Bands, SugarWish, and Jamaica Tourist Board and we could not have been more excited to learn about everything but the giving back part had my heart. The Sandal’s Foundation has been giving back to the Caribbean communities in ways the benefit families, women and children. We were able to participate in a Reading Road trip opportunity while we were in Negril and I felt so blessed to be apart.
All of the bloggers that were invited on this conference boarded buses to take us to different schools on the island. My group went to a primary school, Mount Airy. There I met a kind boy Garfield. Garfield and I read a book together, did the letter of the day and wrote a message to fellow child in Haiti that was affected by the recent hurricanes. These children all wearing uniforms were so excited to see us and gave us a wonderful opportunity to work with them.
This Reading Road Trip in connection with The Sandal’s Foundation was truly a magical experience. These schools and children need our help as well as the many other organizations that The Sandal’s Foundation provides help for from pregnant teen moms and to playing fields for after school children. The list is endless for the help that this foundation provides. To donate now and help their Hurricane relief- go to this GoFundMe and trust me your money will be well spent (in the comment section tell them I sent you!) Plus School Speciaility will match dollar for dollar all contributions. Have a look at Garfield- he told me he wants to be a doctor one day- I think he might just do that.
