Best Margarita Tequila Jello Shots
So let’s begin easy….
What is a margarita?
Traditionally a margarita is a blend of tequila, triple sec and sour mix with a squeeze of lime. There are different variations to this classic recipe so you can make them to your taste. Some people enjoy them with a salted rim, but have you had a margarita with a sugared rim? You should!
Margarita Jell-O Shots
Ingredients
1 6 oz box of lime Jell-O
2 cups boiling water
½ cup cold water
½ cup clear tequila
1/3 cup lime juice
¼ cup evaporated milk
Small plastic cups – I used these.
Directions
Mix boiling water with lime Jell-O and mix until the gelatin is dissolved. Add cold water tequila, and lime juice. Mix to combine.
Pour half of the mixture evenly across small cups (about 8). Refrigerate for 1 hour.
Mix the remaining Jell-O mixture with the evaporated milk (IMPORTANT – DO NOT REFRIGERATE)
Once the first layer of Jell-O is set, remove from the refrigerator.
Pour the Jell-O/milk mixture over the set green Jell-O mixture evenly across each of the cups.
It should make a separate lighter layer.
Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
****To serve, invert the cups and dip the rims in lime juice and place in sugar to coat the rims.
I know that by adding another step it takes a little bit longer to make these margarita Jell-O shots but honestly it makes them the best! Make these for any party or barbecue that you are having this summer, your friends will love them!
This is by far the best margarita Jell-O recipe there is. You can salt the rim if you would rather serve them that way with a wedge of lime. I think the sugared rim makes a nice change. Colored sugar would also work and look quite pretty.
